Predator Pizza Delivery
The FAA and other agencies control virtually all of the airspace above 1200 feet in the United States.  In the areas immediately surrounding airports, they also control from sea level to 1200 feet.  However, away from airports it is largely a free-for-all, a space used for flying kites, launching model rockets, and flying remote control airplanes.

Which brings us to the point.  Arguably the best remote control airplane in the world is the RQ-1 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, also known as the Predator.  With a payload of 450 pounds and an ability to stay airborne for 16 hours at a stretch, it makes the perfect suburban light-payload delivery vehicle.

The two most common light payloads in suburbia are postal (including fedex/UPS/etc) and food.  While postal delivery would be feasible, it does not suffer from being particularly time sensitive.  Food delivery on the other hand is extremely time sensitive, and use of the Predator could achieve significant gains over the current earthbound delivery mechanisms.

Since the launching and landing of the Predator is a time consuming exercise, it would be best to keep it aloft for an entire shift.  One can imagine a stacking mechanism in which (for example) a load of pizzas each with its own parachute were placed in a stacking tray that could release them one by one.  The top of the tray would be a large hook, the counterpart of which would be fitted on the Predator.  Thus a load of fresh pizzas could be left on a rooftop or in a parking lot where the Predator could swoop down and collect them.

GPS data on houses would be used to locate the delivery zones, and the nose camera on the Predator could be used to make a customized drop.  With a parachute to slow it down, it is unlikely that a two to three pound pizza would damage a vehicle, so it is reasonable to assume that a driveway would be the most common and useful landing zone.

Addendum:  if the system could be proved to work for hot food, there are a variety of time sensitive deliveries that are not currently feasible -- rental movies, groceries, beer -- that would become so.
